Primary Election Candidate Interviews

Many of us will be choosing candidates for the County Council and the Port of Bellingham, and residents of Sumas and Blaine will also be choosing City Council candidates. 
 
Short interviews with all of the candidates will be available on our website to help you complete your ballot!


The Lesson of McCarthyism

At the League’s annual meeting on June 28, members were fascinated by the history of McCarthyism and its lessons for today, presented by Daniel Chard, WWU Assistant Professor of History.

The WA Convention: Through the eyes of a First Timer

The League of Women Voters of Washington convention, themed “Stand up for Democracy” was held in Vancouver, WA on last month. 

Hear about the convention first hand from local LWV member Dorie Belisle.

League members are amazing folks - civic minded and generous with their time and resources.  
 
What is your volunteer story?  We would like to know how our members show up for the larger community. We are conducting a short survey to help us get to know each other a little better.

Good Trouble Lives On Rally

Five years since the passing of Congressman John Lewis, communities across the country will take to the streets, courthouses, and community spaces to carry forward his fight for justice, voting, rights, and dignity for all.

 

 We will be holding a rally in front of the Federal Building 4-6 pm on Thursday, July 17.  Get out your signs and flags and let’s Rally for Good Trouble!


Primary Election August 5

Ballots will be mailed out on July 16, to be returned to an official ballot drop box by 8:00 pm sharp on August 5 OR by mail, postmarked by August 5.

I-5 Banner Rally

We're getting our I-5 banners out again. Wear your red, white, and blue to meet us on the pedestrian walkway July 31 from 4-6 pm.

In Memoriam: Susan Mancuso

Susan Mancuso
Many League members were saddened to learn of Susan Mancuso’s passing after a long illness. Susan was an outstanding member of our board for several years, and will be greatly missed in our community.

We are rebelling on July 30 and reading some banned books.

Book group members can select a book of interest that has been challenged or banned and join the discussion sharing why they believe it has been banned and why they think it is or is not important reading.
