High School Students’ Civic Concerns will be Voiced at the October 16 Forum

Published on 10/10/2025
When Jennifer Reidel, social studies teacher at Bellingham High School, surveyed the students in her three Civics classes and her AP Government class, asking what most worried them about life in their city, their answers focused on a few issues.  Nearly all put homelessness first, followed by the lack of affordable housing and the need for a living wage.  Accordingly, these are the topics on which the students are writing the questions they’ll ask candidates for the Bellingham City Council on October 16.

The LWV/BHS forum for these candidates will be held at Bellingham High School starting at 7 p.m. that evening.  Annette Holcomb will moderate on behalf of the League, with student co-moderators.  Members of the audience will be able to add their own questions for the candidates.  As this is our only in-person candidate forum of the current season, the Forum Team is hoping that the audience will be large, not only to form their own opinions of the candidates in action, but also to support the students’ very considerable effort.

Please encourage your friends and neighbors to attend!
