September was busy! On September 1st we were at Pickford Theater for the film: Majority Rules and on September 30th we registered high school students at Sehome.
The calendar of events were numerous; we had one final registration training before the November election, had two church events, tabled at Bellingham Library, registered voters at the Lynden Senior Center, and were at Prospect Theater for three evenings.
Then the new school year began! Whatcom Community College and Bellingham Technical College started the school year off with registration events on September 17, National Voter Registration Day. Since then, we have revisited WCC and been on Western Washington University campus four times. We were at Elevate Off Campus housing twice. Our focus has been registering students and more importantly to help them update their address, so their ballot comes to their Bellingham address.
LWV volunteers also visited four Whatcom County high schools in September.
It seems like a lot and it has been. There were at least 26 registration/GOTV events in September and October. We have turned in 531 voter registrations forms to the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office. Many more voters have been directed to VOTEWA.gov.
To accomplish all the above events has involved approximately 50 volunteers and hours of talking with students and others about the voting, registration, and election process.
For those members who have volunteered for one or more events. Thank you. Your support and dedication are appreciated. It does take a village.
