Voter Services - September 2024

Published on 9/10/2024

The GOTV team has been busy with events: registering voters, talking to voters, answering questions, and training new members who are interested in Voter Services. We have volunteers signed up to be on WWU, WWC and BTC campuses to help students register, update addresses, or just answer questions, so they get their ballot in on time to vote.

Everyone can be an advocate for voting. There are multiple ways each of you can help Voters Services.

  • Remind people to register if they are new to Washington. Also, you might explain to them how all ballots are mailed in or put into one of the 23 drop boxes in the county.
  • Remind anyone who has relocated to Whatcom County or moved within the county to update their address.
  • Vote Early – do not wait until election day (if there is a question with your ballot, missing signature or signature not matching) it can quickly be resolved by contacting the Auditor’s office so your ballot is counted.
  • Sign up for text messaging (SMS) to be notified when your ballot is received and counted by the Elections Office or if there are problems processing your ballot (i.e., missing or signature not matched).
  • Wear a VOTE tee shirt and put out a yard sign reminding people to vote.

Use the website VoteWA.gov to register online, change an address, track your ballot after you return it, find out who represents you, your precinct, and even read information detailing ballot measures and initiatives and candidate statement prior to each election.  If you have school-aged children in your family, neighbors, and work colleagues, invite them to share in your ballot process (how you decide who/what you vote on/where to find facts on the issues and candidates) and start to build a culture of voting and its importance.
