Here’s the latest news about our fall candidate forums.
*A Zoom forum for the Public Utility District candidates at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 26,
*A Zoom forum for the candidates for the second Congressional District at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15.
Recordings of both forums will be accessible from our website shortly after each.
Most exciting is our in-person forum for State Legislature candidates from the 42nd District, which will be held at Bellingham High School at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9. The program will be broadcast live by BTV.
Students from three civics classes and an AP Government and Politics class will be helping to write the questions for the candidates and to conduct the session, with likely assistance from civics students at Options High School.
This invaluable lesson in civic engagement is possible because of the efforts of exceptional high school teachers Jennifer Reidel at Bellingham HS and Joseph Wooding at Options, working together with the LWV Forum Team. Members of the Team’s question-writing group spoke to classes at BHS to demonstrate the writing of nonpartisan, specific, and soundly based questions.
The Forum Team hopes you will encourage this unique collaboration, and will attend in person to hear the candidates and to support the students. The school has an ample parking lot and its auditorium is comfortable and well lit. Mark your calendars for October 9!
