Jigsaw, a division of Google, is doing research on "prebunking". It's a way of training readers/viewers online in how to recognize specific types of misinformation, such as fearmongering, scapegoating and whataboutism.
It's almost impossible to "debunk" information after the fact. Jigsaw is trying to help people identify and resist manipulative content before they see it. It's a well-tested model developed in the 1960's by Dr. William Maguire. It works even if the information conflicts with people's existing beliefs.
Jigsaw has been creating and measuring the impact of "prebunking" in several locations around the world.
