A Successful Year for High School Voter Registration

Published on 11/13/2022
League member Jean Scribner provided a report on the 2022 High School Voter Registration program for Whatcom County high schools. Spring events were limited to six, due to COVID restrictions, but we still registered 83 students. During the fall, 11 events resulted in 383 registrations!

During a spring event, Meridian High School had a great showing with 23 registrations.

Sehome High School’s student-led voter registration efforts yielded 177 new registrations. This is part of Shannon Eubank’s social studies curriculum, which is impressive for the participation she gets from her students!

The partnerships we have at our county high schools are strong. This past month League members met more teachers and staff who are enthusiastic about getting their students registered. We will be more than ready for our voter registration in the spring.

Although many students report that they are already registered, they are still glad to see us on campus. The continued presence of the League is a positive and effective way for young people to experience the importance of becoming a voter.

A BIG thanks to the 14 League members who volunteered at one or more of the events this year.
