Civics Education Team Gears Up with August Talk

Published on 9/12/2022
On August 17, the Civics Education Team heard Jennifer Reidel describe the state of civics education in the Bellingham schools. Ms. Reidel teaches civics at Bellingham High School. She was 2019-20 Civics Teacher in Residence at the Library of Congress, among many other accomplishments.

Ms. Reidel advised us that the League can support civics teaching in local schools by developing a list of public officials and other citizens who are prepared to  speak with students on topics in the civics curriculum. Among such topics are: describing the process of lobbying for laws, acting to protect Constitutional rights, and serving in government at any level.

If you’re willing to describe your experience with these activities or recruit public officials to speak to classes, please send a message to the Civics Education team.. A team member will contact you to discuss particulars.

If you weren’t able to attend Ms. Reidel’s highly informative talk, a video of her presentation is posted on the League Civics Education web page here.
