About this event

Democracy protest with sign I dissent Sotomayor

Are  you concerned about threats to democracy?
You're not alone!
Come learn what's  happening locally and what you can do.

To frame this issue and offer perspective, these local leaders will speak, followed by a Q&A period:

  • Liz Darrow is the Participatory Democracy Program Coordinator for Community to Community. She also served as the elected Chair of the Whatcom County Charter Review Commission.
  • Todd Donovan is a professor of political science at WWU who previously served on the Whatcom County Council and Whatcom County Charter Review Commission.
  • Edgar Franks is the Political Director for the independent farmworker union Familias Unidas por la Justicia, and works at the intersection of labor issues and climate change.
  • Jeremy Harrison-Smith works as the Governor’s Northwest regional representative and is currently running to become the next Skagit County Auditor.

Each panelist will present ideas specific to the topic of elections and voting, and will invite participants to consider actions they may take to help ensure fair elections in our area.  The panel will be followed by a Q/A period for participants to engage around what concerns they have on this vital topic.
