No Kings Community Rallies!

Community Rallies! Meet your neighbors, take a stand! LWVUS is once again partnering with the No Kings Rallies on Saturday, March 28th in Bellingham at Waypoint Park from 1p.m. to 4p.m. and Everson from 12:30p.m. to 2:00p.m.

Please ensure any signs associated with the LWV are non-partisan. Pro-democracy messages are generally good. If you would like LWV stickers, you can contact Eileen.

Our team will be tabling at the Bellingham Rally.  If you would like to help then we could use a hand, please contact Eileen! We will share more information as it becomes available, and look forward to seeing you there!

Forum Team: Help Needed!

As the Forum Team prepares for this year’s primary and general elections, we are looking for additional help.  It’s going to be a meaningful mid-term election season, and you can contribute to it in ways that matter.  You will enjoy working with other dedicated team members who will help you with any of the listed tasks.

  • Working on a candidate forum in Lynden (or possibly Ferndale or Sumas)
  • Inviting candidates to forums or interviews
  • Writing publicity releases
  • Wording questions for candidate forums or short interviews

If you are interested in assisting with any of the following actions, please get in touch with Minda Rae Amiran via voterservices@lwvbellinghamwhatcom.org.

Civil Action Toolkit

Many League members hold positions of social and civic privilege that can open doors, increase transparency, and encourage accountability. You can use the Civic Action Toolkit to use access constructively, safely, in collaboration with community partners, and in alignment with League values and positions.

League's Directory of Elected Officials Now Available

The annual Directory of Elected Officials gives voters the information they need to contact elected officials on all levels of government. Get a printed copy or view it on the LWVBWC website.

Healthcare Issues

Catch up on news from our February meeting and save the date for our March 16th meeting on universal healthcare in Washington

Maureen Brinck-Lund will join us to update us on what is happening with the Universal Health Care Commission (UHCC), established in 2021 to make recommendations for increasing access to quality, affordable healthcare in Washington State and to create a single-payer, universal healthcare system for all Washingtonians.

Remembering Rebecca Johnson

After a short struggle with cancer, Rebecca Johnson passed away, too young, on March 12, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

According to League records, Rebecca has been a member since 2010, and in that time, held a number of leadership positions, including Co-President.  She will be greatly missed.

Don't Miss Our Upcoming Conventions!

It is that time of year again! If you would like to participate in LWV at a higher level, then the LWVWA Council or LWVUS Convention might be of interest to you.

Save the date for June 6-7 for the LWVWA Council in Lacey, WA and June 25-28 in Columbus, OH for the LWVUS Convention!

Our Responsibilities as League Members

Previously in The Voter, we explored our rights as League members.

Now, we focus on our responsibilities. Whether we are new or experienced, it's important to understand our part in “Empowering Voters and Defending Democracy.” We invest time, effort, and more toward the League’s mission with enthusiasm and a strong commitment to its success as a community advocate. With a solid Responsibility Policy, we can act professionally and compassionately.
