About this event

Final forest book cover

Bill Dietrich published The Final Forest: Big Trees, Forks and the Pacific Northwest in 1993, and then an updated version was published in 2011. Recently the author told us that the current administration is " trying to dismantle the old growth agreement of the early 90s, a disastrous idea, but that society has also moved on in that the small town logging mania of the 1980s has declined and adapted to lesser and different cutting... I laugh at myself because when I wrote The Final Forest I worried, with my newspaper instincts, that the issue would be resolved and forgotten by the time my book came out. And here we are! A perennially important and divisive issue."

More about the book here.

Our book group meets at Village Books on the last Wednesday of alternate months of the year to have lively discussions about a multitude of topics that are of concern to the League. Discussions are facilitated by our members and all are welcome. Books are available at the Bellingham library, and Village Books offers a discount for book group selections.

Metered on-street parking is available in Fairhaven or take one of several bus routes.
