Join Members Supporting Immigrants

LWVBWC members are organizing a team to learn more about immigrants in our community and how to support them.  If you want to be notified about future activities around supporting immigrants, or join a discussion forum on the topic, let us know that “Immigration Support” is one of your interests.

LWVBWC a Village Books "Round it up Partner"

LWVBWC is being featured as the Village Books “Round it up Partner” starting in September.  Look for us to be featured in the Chuckanut Reader and in their window display.  We will also be the recipient of donations made by customers at the time of purchase.

Unite and Rise 8.5 (Million!)

We are in a Constitutional Crisis and we, the people, must fight back.  Through Unite and Rise 8.5, we will engage and mobilize 8.5 million voters to protect and preserve our democracy. 

Whatcom County Government Open House

On September 3, the public is invited to visit the Whatcom County Courthouse from 6:00pm to 7:30pm to learn about what the County is doing on behalf of the public.

On Dec. 10th, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, we will be gathering at Squalicum Boathouse to celebrate the election and to thank our elected officials for their service.  There will be food and drink and the opportunity for one-on-one conversations with our elected officials.  Save the date!

Book Group Discusses Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies

The Book Group has selected a book about our connections to migrant farmworkers who provide healthy, fresh food for our tables:  Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies, by Seth M. Holmes.  Readers will learn more about our interconnected relationships with migrant farmworkers who provide healthy, fresh food for our tables.  

Community Engagement at Options High School

Engage with high school Civics students as they initiate positive actions  to support the  community.   On Wednesdays from September 24 to October 19, take just one and a half hours to have stimulating exchanges and discussions with a group of amazing teens who look to us for support and guidance.

LWV of Washington's New Positions

As a result of two years of study and member consensus, LWVWA had adopted two new positions on Elder Caregiving and Welcoming Immigrants.  In addition, LWVUS has adoped a new position on the Federal Judiciary.

In July Vicki Thomas from the LWVBWC Climate Issues Team presented information on the effect of plastics on our health to the Healthcare Issues Team.  Plastics are pervasive in our environment and, even more concerning, in our bodies.

Sunday September 14th from 5:00 to 7:00.  Check out the newest park in Bellingham and meet up with friends.  If you haven’t been out to this beautiful park then you are missing out.  Bring a friend or family!

July Get-out-the-Vote Events

July was busy in all corners of Whatcom County: food banks from Blaine to Maple Falls, Everson, Ferndale, and Bellingham. Community events included Cordata Ice Cream Social, and Sunnyland Stomp, Bellingham Senior Center, and two new events, Hamster Walk and Roll, and Disability Sidewalk Fest.
