About this event

Our Book Group is reading Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies: Migrant Farm Workers in the US and will discuss the topic on September 24. Author Seth M. Holmes is an anthropologist and physician who researched the lives of migrant farmworkers and the politicies that impact us all.
Through his research, the author discovered how the migrant farm workers are deeply connected with us through food and health. He documents how market forces, racism and nationalism produce sickness and injury to the workers while giving Americans access to year-round healthy foods. Along with his research, the author developed some long term personal relationships.
Our group meets in alternate months to discuss books relevant to an interest of the League. Please register to attend and reserve your place at the table. We encourage you to shop locally at Village Books. Ask for the book group discount and thank them for their support! These books are also available from the Bellingham Library.
We meet at the covered patio behind Skylark Hidden Cafe. Attendees may buy food and drink of their choice. Metered parking is available in Fairhaven or take the bus, route #1 or #14.
