Property Taxes!

Civics Education Taxes 2
Recently the Whatcom County Council voted to increase the County’s property tax  levy by 2.7%, or 1% for those living inside a city What does that mean to the property taxes you pay?

Property taxes are complicated. Don't miss our three short videos to explain how property taxes are levied, and other regressive and progressive kinds of taxation.

Developing New Positions Through a Program of Work

“Program of Work” is the League of Women Voters’ grassroots process for studying and reaching agreement on positions on issues.  Members submit ideas for program studies at local, state and national levels.

This is the time of year when Program proposals are being gathered so they can be considered at the state convention in June or by our local League at our member meeting this summer.  If you have ideas for local or state Programs, especially if you would be interested in participating in the study and the study has the potential to make a difference and offer tangible results, learn more today!

2025 Charter Review Commission

The members of the 2025 Charter Review Commission have been elected and the Commission is likely to begin meeting on a regular basis soon.

The Commission has the authority to propose changes to the County Charter for voters to approve or reject in next year’s general election. We’d like to follow the Charter Review Commission through its deliberations and report them to our members. Help us report on these meetings to our members!

Join the Healthcare Issues Team in December

The next meeting of the Healthcare Issues Team will be December 16th. In honor of the Holiday Season this will be an in-person meeting, a chance to get together and enjoy each other’s company.

Introduction to LWVWA Legislative Action

The new session of the Washington State Legislature will convene Jan. 13, 2025.

Two major challenges are the deficit budget resulting in a shortfall of 10 to12 billion dollars over the next four years, and the fact that there are many new inexperienced legislators who are just beginning their term. Not only will they be looking at major cuts, but also new sources of revenue.

Our input is critical!

LWVBWC Forum Team’s Ambitious 2024
