LISTEN, LIVE, LEARN, EXPLORE: A Day of Uplifting the BIPOC Communities Within Whatcom County
About this event
The event starts at 2:00pm with a welcome by Shovia Muchirawehondo on behalf of the LWVBWC and our Land Acknowledgement of the Lummi, Nooksack and Salish peoples as the inhabitants of this land since time immemorial. We will recognize their treaty rights and our shared responsibilities for this special region. There will be vendors of goods. Many local organizations have promised to come and share their work. Food vendors will include Mulu with her delicious Ethiopian food.
The event will run until 6:00. We hope many League members will come and participate. It is an excellent opportunity to talk with a wide variety of community members and build connections with organizations in order to more fully realize our League mission of a healthy democracy where all voices are heard and valued.
The schedule of events will include Las Chicas Reinas, the Silk Road Dancers, Godly Productions and a panel of BIPOC people discussing the history of their communities' place in Whatcom County and where we are today in terms of being a welcoming and inclusive county.
