Our democracy is at risk on several fronts when citizens lack access to local issues and government action.  The costs to hire reporters and print local news have increased dramatically with changes in the industry.   Local journalists are incredibly important to  monitor the work of our school boards, city and county councils and agencies and keep their fingers on the pulse of the community.  

The important thing about Newspaper is the News part.  We may be getting information online rather than in print now, but still the League is concerned that citizens can find out what’s happening locally in order to be informed and engaged.

Thanks to our LWV of Washington for careful research of what is happening in our state and for publishing a very readable and informative report.
