Shoreline Study Consensus Process
About this event
Consensus is part of the League’s well-regarded Study and Consensus process which provides information on critical government issues. Every local LWV chapter is asked for input.
You are invited to participate in a structured consensus process that will help determine the League’s final published position regarding the Shorelines Act. Learn about the existing Shoreline Management Plan from Cliff Strong, Whatcom County Senior Planner. Hear details of the study process from Shelley Kneip, Chair of the statewide study committee.
Registration is required. Click the Login button below and a Register button will appear.

The Shoreline study was initiated by a vote of members at the 2019 LWVWA convention. It is now ready for state-wide member study and discussion. Click here for a short slideshow explaining the process. The consensus derived from this process will be used to develop a LWVWA position which both the state and local Leagues can then use to advocate for changes to public policy.
Consensus is member agreement reached after study and discussion. It is not a simple majority, nor is it necessarily unanimity; rather, it is the overall sense of the group as expressed through the exchange of ideas and opinions. Please see this video link for the study committee debrief recording, and the LWBWC Climate Team webpage for more information. Click here to see a list of questions that will be used to focus the discussion.
