July Get-Out-the-Vote Events

July was busy in all corners of Whatcom County: Food banks from Blaine to Maple Falls, Everson, Ferndale, and Bellingham;  Cordata Ice Cream Social, Sunnyland Stomp, Bellingham Senior Center, and two new events, Hamster Walk and Roll, and Disability Sidewalk Fest.

We had 13 registration events, which resulted in new registrations, address updates, and many discussions about the importance of local elections. We also had a training session with volunteers new to Get Out the Vote and a few veterans who wanted a refresher course. There is another training August 12 from 4 -5:45 pm at the Bellingham Library.  Email me at camkerst@comcast.net if you would like to attend the training.

People are eager to volunteer at events. I appreciate the willingness of so many volunteers to step up and participate in our registration events. Thank YOU. We have new members on our GOTV team.  We welcome Karla Ward, Kate Adriance-Exner, and Jane Blume. Also, Elissa Bundy and Judy Bryngelson are shadowing me and sharing the load of leadership.

This is an all-call ahead of time for working at Western Washington University. We will need four to six people three times a week. Most days will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from September 30 – November 4. You will have a bag with a clipboard, registration forms, and informational pink handbills. If you can volunteer for one day or more, that would be great.  Watch for more information. If you are interested, please contact me at camkerst@comcast.net.
