Welcoming Immigrants

Published on 3/13/2025
Through LWVWA’s Welcoming Immigrants study we learned about the many needs that immigrants face as they attempt to create new lives and that these needs are often addressed in a piecemeal way by nonprofits or agencies that lack resources.

In addition to greater resources, there is a need for advocates and navigators to assist immigrants with bureaucracy, language, and culture.   What resources are available in Whatcom County?  How do the agencies and nonprofits work together?  Who advocates for our immigrant neighbors?  What are the needs in our community and how can the LWVBWC help?

If you would be interested in learning more about how we welcome immigrants in our community and potentially working towards being more truly welcoming, then please join us for coffee on Friday 3/21 at 10:00 a.m. at the downtown Community Food Co-op, 1220 No. Forest St.

Grab a cup of coffee and join us upstairs.

If you are interested but unable to attend or if you have questions, please text or email Wendy Courtemanche (360) 809-0004, wcourte94@gmail.comwcourte94@gmail.com.
