The new session of the Washington State Legislature will convene Jan. 13, 2025. Thanks to LWV-Washington and their presentations at the Annual Action Workshop, via Zoom Sat. Dec. 7, we are better able to understand the challenges our representatives will be facing and the work that needs to be done.
Two major challenges are the deficit budget resulting in a shortfall of 10 to12 billion dollars over the next four years, and the fact that there are many new inexperienced legislators who are just beginning their term. Not only will they be looking at major cuts, but also new sources of revenue. Our input is critical!
The workshop had breakout sessions looking more critically at Financing, Forest and Natural Resources, Climate and Energy, Housing for the Homeless, Redistricting, Health, and Behavioral Healthcare. The sessions were all recorded and are available on
lwvwa.org Please consider taking the time to research the areas that mean the most to you.
As they closed the session, LWVWA leaders called upon us to:
1. Go to
WLWVWA.org/advocacy/actionworkshop2024. Become more knowledgeable about what is happening at the state level.
2. Make sure you are signed up for the
Legislative Newsletter and Action Alerts. Respond to the call to Action – a letter or email or phone call. Your voice is important.
