Recently the Whatcom County Council voted to increase the County’s property tax levy by 2.7%, or 1% for those living inside a city (since city residents don’t pay for county roads).
What does that mean to the property taxes you pay? Probably not what you think.
Property taxes are complicated. The County collects only a small portion of the total property taxes you pay. LWVBWC’s Civics Education team has developed three short videos to explain how property taxes are levied, and other regressive and progressive kinds of taxation.
