From the President: Our Mission to Empower Voters and Defend Democracy

Published on 11/12/2024
What a lot of emotions we all have after the election.  But let’s remember that we are a non-partisan grassroots organization that deeply values our shared mission of Empowering Voters and Defending Democracy.

And WE DID.

In a huge effort that included more than 36 voter registration events just in October and 500+ voters registered this year.  Many of you helped someone vote.

Someone voted because of YOU.

If we must, we can still talk about politics when we gather.  We should not be talking about politicians and parties in a partisan manner when we gather in a League capacity.

But we can talk about the 4 state initiatives that we advocated for.  I- 2109, I-2117 and I-2124 have all failed.  We had a part in that.   If you educated yourself, wrote letters to the editor, planted yard signs or encouraged family and friends to vote NO then you were effective.  The numbers prove it.

Right now, I-2066 is passing but in Whatcom County it is not.  I would like to think it is because we helped moved the needle towards NO.

With the election over know that we will continue to pursue our mission of defending democracy with our combined passion and commitment.
