In October, the Healthcare Issues Team met to learn about I-2124, the Initiative that would make participation in Washington State’s long-term care program optional. The Initiative was opposed by the LWVWA. Karen Twedt, Team Leader of the Social Issues Group of the LWVWA Lobby Team. presented arguments why voters should reject the Initiative and vote No. On November 5th the voters rejected I-2124.
There will be no Healthcare Issues Team meeting in November. Instead, our next meeting will be December 16th. In honor of the Holiday Season this will be an in-person meeting, a chance to get together and enjoy each other’s company. More information will follow.
And now, a preview at what’s happening in 2025. In January a representative from PeaceHealth will talk about their Charity care program. In February someone from ARC will discuss services available for individuals with disabilities in Whatcom County and what is lacking. Also, Donna Inglis and Amber Asbjornsen who spoke with us last Spring about the PeaceHealth Palliative Care program will be back with an update.
