Before you sit down to vote, fix yourself a nice cup of tea and gather your laptop or computer and voter pamphlet so you can read about important choices.
For local election information check out the
forum's recordings page on our website. We’ve produced ZOOM forums for Whatcom County Public Utility District and the 2nd Congressional District. We partnered w/ civics students at Bellingham High School for a 42 Legislative District Forum.
If you are not familiar with the Whatcom County Charter Review Commission, then
check this out. There is information about why our county has a charter; you can even read it from this page – it isn’t that long! Learn how the Charter Review Commission members will review and potentially propose changes to our charter. This review process happens once every 10 and can result in proposals that affect whether officials are elected or appointed, whether elections are county-wide or by district, whether offices are added or subtracted, and much more. There are more than 45 candidates in 5 Districts and we were able to do short, informative interviews with many of them.
The LWVWA took the lead on
producing forums for candidates for Commissioner of Public Lands, Insurance Commissioner, Secretary of State, and Superintendent of Public Instruction. There is one more in the series for U.S. Senate which you can watch live on October 17, 2024 12:00 p.m. on Kiro-7 and on local radio and television stations across the state.
Lastly, the LWVWA has recommended that we all vote NO on the
4 state-wide initiatives.
Brace yourself, it is going to be a long ballot with a lot of important races and initiatives.
