LWVBWC Needs Your Help

Published on 9/11/2024
Most of our team leaders will tell you that there is a lot of interest in their subject areas but that it's the same very few people who are willing to step up and organize programming.  We could really use your help.

Often a speaker has volunteered or a community group is looking to do something with us. If we are looking for someone to lead an event or project there is probably already some framework for the program.  You might just need a well thought out agenda.  Maybe another expert would provide some balance or background.   Within the LWVBWC there are lots of resources and members who can connect you to interesting, knowledgeable people in our community who are more than happy to respond to our promise of an informed, interested and active membership.

Often it is not as hard as you would think to pull off a successful event.  For virtual events, you arrange for a date with the speaker, set up a zoom meeting, and fill out a form asking for publicity.  Tech and PR assistance are provided by other volunteers.  For in-person events you will need a room or facility.  If you need help in the weeks ahead of or on the day of the event, we can put out the word.  We usually don’t have trouble getting help with specific tasks.

We have several openings in on-going League leadership as well.   We are pretty desperate to find someone to lead our Candidate Forums team.  This is a solid and experienced team and it would be perfect for someone who feels that this is an important service that we're providing for our community.  Our Hospitality chair is also open.  This person makes sure that there we have the coffee, cookies, napkins, etc. for our meetings.  There are not a lot of events in a year and people do help when asked.

We can help you with all of these things.  Maybe you think you don’t have the leadership or organization skills to pull this kind of thing off.  I would like to think of the LWVBWC as a place where we can all learn and grow. This is our League and as volunteers we can be learning as well as working for our community.

We could really use your help, so if you are even a little curious and willing to step out of your comfort zone a bit, please call me.

With thanks,
Eileen McCracken, President
