Housing For All: Educational Programs, Housing Webpage
Published on 1/13/2023
Educational Programs
We have been planning a series of public education programs for this first quarter of 2023.
Saturday, February 4 – Washington State Housing-related Legislation
We have invited Cynthia Stewart, LWVWA lobby team Issue Chair, and legislators from the 40th and 42nd legislative districts to participate. Plus, Addie Candib, Pacific Northwest Regional Director of American Farmland Trust, will discuss the intersection of farmland preservation and housing density. (Registration available soon! Online meeting at 10 am.)
Monday, February 20 – Housing Needs of Older Adults and Persons with Disability in Whatcom County
Our Healthcare team is organizing this program using the housing chapter from the Aging Well Whatcom Blueprint as a resource. We invited the Blueprint consultant, Lara Welker, MPH, to moderate our program. Panelists working in the field will discuss unique challenges, current plans for addressing needs, and how we as a community can participate. (Registration available soon! Hybrid meeting at 10 am.) March (date/time TBD)
This second program from the Healthcare team will start our discussion of the decennial comprehensive planning process. Because each city has separate plans, we will be inviting planning directors from Bellingham, Ferndale, Blaine, and Lynden to address their local situations. The program will focus on their planning process for meeting healthcare, affordable housing, and affordable transportation needs of the aging and disabled populations. And, how we as a community can participate.

Thanks go out to our volunteers who have watched housing-related public meetings and completed the initial draft of our reporting form. We are still seeking a member with some good technical skills to take this program to the next level.
